The design theme is “Japan”! Introducing the special “R8”
On December 14, 2023, Audi released the final limited edition model of its flagship supercar, the R8, in Japan.
This special edition car, which marks the final chapter in the history of the R8, has a “Japan” theme design in the interior and exterior, and various comments have been posted on social media about its unique aesthetic.
Audi R8 Japan Final Edition
The R8 is an Audi supercar developed by Audi Sport GmbH.
It has continued to evolve over the past 17 years as a rare model that boasts the high performance of a racing car while also enabling a comfortable ride in everyday driving.
The R8 Japan Final Edition, which was released in only eight units as the final model limited to Japan, is equipped with a 5.2-liter V10 naturally aspirated engine that delivers a maximum output of 620 horsepower and a maximum torque of 580 Nm in the power unit.
It is mated to a seven-speed S tronic transmission and all-wheel drive, resulting in acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds.
And the biggest feature of this Japan limited edition model is that it adopts an exterior and interior design with a “Japan” motif, and the coloring and materials that incorporate the aesthetic sense of Japan are effectively incorporated.
The styling is as simple as the genuine horizontal body, but carbon parts are used everywhere. By blacking out each part, the car body is tightened not only in terms of performance but also visually.
The interior is unified in two-tone black and white, and the left and right sports seats are made of fine nappa leather for the upholstery and Alcantara for the headlining and luggage compartment lining, creating a high-quality interior space typical of a flagship model.
In addition, the door sill trim is engraved with the words “JAPAN FINAL EDITION” along with the serial number indicating the limited model.
The exterior coloring is also unique, and the body color is a luxurious “Ibis White Matte”, and the feet are equipped with matte bronze polished Audi Sport 20-inch alloy wheels that resemble “gold”.
In addition, the R8 Japan Final Edition, which combines ceramic gloss red calipers with brakes to express high performance and the “glamour of red and white” from ancient Japan, is priced at 35.08 million yen (including consumption tax).

Regarding the limited edition Japan Final Edition, which uses the traditional colors of the Japan of “white, red, and gold” in this way, there are voices on SNS that have received the design and coloring favorably, such as “The R8 with the theme of Japan is beautiful,” “It has a Japanese taste,” and “I don’t think there are many supercars with such a simple design.”
On the other hand, even though it is a “Japan motif”, such as “Is this the Japan taste these days?” or “I was surprised that it was too flashy than the normal R8”, the way it is perceived differs from person to person.
In addition, there are many posts that remind us of the end of the gasoline engine era and Audi’s sports cars of the future, such as “Is the R8 finally discontinued …”, “I liked it because it was elegant like Audi”, and “I am looking forward to the new sports model presented by Audi for the coming EV era”, and it was possible to feel how the R8 was gaining high support.
