Epson will release one new M45 F7 Mechanical Moon Phase limited edition model from the Orient Star M45 collection on October 26, 2023. The new collection name, M45, refers to the star cluster Subaru (Pleiades), and is composed of representative models of Orient Star, which express the eternal flow of time with a classical design with universality and calmness in the design elements. The new work expresses the natural flow of Japan with a brown dial created by white butterfly shells and gradation.
In 2021, the 70th anniversary of the Orient Star, a simple moon-aged model was born that removed the open work at 9 o’clock, while inheriting classical design codes such as Roman numerals, railway scales, and leaf-shaped hands to the “Mechanical Moon Phase”, which is representative of the Orient Star. In 2022, with the theme of a watch that evokes the natural flow of time in the Japan, a limited edition model with a new design that expresses the image of the moon reflected on the surface of Lake Tazawa in Akita Prefecture with white butterfly shells and gradations has opened up a new world of beauty in the “Mechanical Moon Phase”.
The new work, which will be released in limited quantities in Japan of 350 pieces, is based on the same theme and emotionally expresses the scene of Lake Tazawa at night when winter approaches. The brown dial created by combining a white butterfly shell with a gradation of black around the circumference is reminiscent of the surface of a lake at a quiet night, and the silver moon drawn on the disk of the moon phase mechanism represents the moon floating vaguely behind the clouds. No two unique expressions of the white butterfly shells are the same, and even the gentle moonlight illuminating the surface of the lake in the quiet passage of time ticking by the clock and the late autumn breeze blowing through the sky seem to come to mind. Intricate details such as Roman numerals with a three-dimensional overlay, a black ring separating the dials, and the Orient Star’s “OS mark” in the center with transparent hidden printing can also be clearly appreciated through the glass in both spherical sapphire crystals with a non-reflective coating.
In addition, the bronze-plated bezel set in a high-quality stainless steel (SUS316L) case connects the dial and the crocodile skin band in a continuous brown tone, creating a sense of elegance and luxury as well as a sense of unity throughout the watch. It also comes with a metal band that you can change to your liking. This metal band has a push-kannon buckle and a small adjustment that can be adjusted in length with short frames for a comfortable fit.
Also attractive is the high-performance, high-quality in-house movement unique to the Orient Star M45 collection. The automatic movement is the F7M65 calibre, which offers a power reserve of more than 50 hours and a stable precision of +15 seconds ~ -5 seconds per day. The beautiful finish of the movement, which can be seen through the see-through back of sapphire crystal, is also exceptional.
