Dyson Corporation (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo: President & CEO: Peter Smith, hereinafter referred to as “Dyson”) today announced the launch of a limited edition Japan Dyson Supersonic Shine hair dryer from April 25, 2023. This new model is equipped with three attachments, including a newly developed “gloss tool”. From today, it will be released sequentially at Dyson directly managed stores, Dyson official online store, department stores, affiliated hair salons, and electronics retailers.
The “Gloss Tool” is a redesign of the previous “Hair Relief Tool” and adds additional functionality in two modes. Use the “Smooth Brush Mode” from wet conditions to dry your hair while adjusting the waviness and smoothing it. And in the “Floating Hair Inhibition Mode”, you can use the Coanda effect to hide the floating hair and give it a cohesive finish. This tool is for customers who want to achieve a natural straight style and a smooth, glossy finish at home while preserving the natural luster of their hair. Professional stylists use brushes and dryers to achieve the ideal “shiny hair” for many people, but this tool is also useful when you need to perform at your best in a limited time, such as behind the scenes of a fashion show. To complete a great hairstyle on the runway, you can support your hair with the right tools and techniques to protect your model’s hair from excessive heat damage.

Dyson revolutionized hair drying in 2016 with the launch of the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer. Since then, we have refined our attachment technology to improve usability and performance. In 2021, we developed a “floating hair reduction tool” and successfully incorporated professional finishing techniques to give a shine to the surface of the hair, but now we wanted to replicate the way professional stylists use hair dryers and brushes. Based on Dyson’s hair care philosophy of “protecting hair health”, we thought we could develop an attachment that makes it easy for daily styling to be done at home and has the same results as professional finishing.
The “Gloss Tool” utilizes a phenomenon called the Coanda effect, in which air injected at high speed flows through the surface and adheres to the surface due to the difference in pressure. This concept was first utilized in Dyson bladeless fans, designed as a basic principle of the Dyson Airwrap™ styler, and reused in the design of the attachment called the “Floating Hair Reduction Tool”. Here, too, the concept of Dyson’s engineering approach, which is constantly repeating and trying to improve and leverage the previous one, comes into play.
