NOMOS GLASHÜTTE, a mechanical watch brand that conducts R&D and manufacture and assembly of movements in Glashütte, Germany, will release a new model “Tangente Japan Blau” limited to Japan.
A model that incorporates a blue-baked second hand
The model is based on the theme of the dye belo indigo, which was discovered in Berlin, Germany in the early 18th century. This belo indigo brought innovation to Japan art and is said to be a color loved by Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige.
Used in many ukiyo-e prints representing Japan, this color, which depicts the vast sky and strong waves, later influenced European painters. Today, as symbolized by the word samurai blue, it is one of the colors that represents the spirituality of Japan people.
This time, the milky white dial, reminiscent of the pale clouds depicted in this ukiyo-e print, is combined with indexes made of velo indigo to express the traditional beauty of Japan.
In addition, a special sleeve with the motif of Katsushika Hokusai’s famous painting “Thirty-six Views of Fuji Kanagawa Oki Namura” is included. In addition, an easy-to-use leather case is also included.
There are two types of models, which incorporate blue and red dyeing on the second hand. Only 15 bottles of blue dyeing will be sold at NOMOS boutiques, and only 35 pieces of red dyeing will be sold at authorized retailers. The selling price is 382,800 yen.
