Swiss luxury watch brand “HUBLOT” has announced the “MP-15 Takashimurakami Tourbillon Sapphire”, a complication model limited to 50 pieces, developed in collaboration with artist “Takashi Murakami”.

With a unique style unlike any other model created in Hublot’s more than 40-year history, the complication is placed where the dial is normally located, and the hands are placed around it. Hublot’s first “center flying tourbillon” is placed in the center, and the components of the watch are fused together in an original and playful arrangement.
Takashi Murakami’s iconic motif “Flowers” consists of 12 sapphire crystal petals surrounding a central flying tourbillon, featuring softly drawn curves and bold, loose volumes. And the sapphire case, sapphire caseback, sapphire crown, and translucent flange and strap, which are said to aim for absolute transparency, maximize the brilliance of this artistic “flower”.
The center-flying tourbillon, in which all the parts appear to float in space as a skeleton, is both functional and visually pleasing, and Takashi Murakami perfectly expresses the charming characteristics of this watch by incorporating two sparkling eyes and a big smile. The tips of the two needles around the edge of the tourbillon indicate the hours and minutes, and the needles pass under the tourbillon cage.
It also has an impressive power reserve of about 150 hours, which is unusual for this type of complication. In addition, it is easy to imagine how much effort went into the development of this watch, including the development of a special stylus that can be charged via USB to fully wind the watch.
Combining technical feats that boldly break with the basic principles of traditional watchmaking with innovative and out-of-the-box forms, this artistic watch is limited to 50 pieces worldwide. The price in Japan yen is 43.67 million yen.
