THE RAKE’s latest watch is a collaboration with the great American icon designer Ralph Lauren. The RL867 Dubai Limited Edition is limited to just 20 watches. Inspired by Dubai, a metropolis in the Middle East, the design is elegant and modern, with Indian numerals used in Arabic-speaking countries.
At first glance, it seems to follow the design of an elegant and simple classic watch. But if you look closely, you’ll see that the ivory dial with elegant guilloché is surrounded by a steel hobnail bezel. The bold Roman numerals and Indian numerals create a beautiful contrast. All of these details are housed in a 35mm case that fits comfortably on the wrist. Hand-stitched interchangeable straps are another feature of this model. The supple black alligator leather is comfortable to wear and gives it a natural sheen. The sapphire crystal caseback reads “THE RAKE – Dubai Edition – 1 of 20”. The owner will be one of a few enthusiasts who understand craftsmanship and engineering.
The movement, like the exterior, is also handworked. Looking at the RL300-1 Swiss automatic calibre through the open back, you can see the beautiful hand-finished Côte de Genève and Perlage decorations. This shows that while these 20 watches were designed in New York and inspired by the Dubai lifestyle, there is no compromise whatsoever in the craftsmanship of Swiss haute horlogerie.
