The theme of the 110th anniversary of Seiko watches is “Staying close to people and marking time together.”
In 1881, the company began its business by repairing and selling clocks, and in 1892 began manufacturing wall clocks. In preparation for the era of wristwatches that would soon come, in the early Taisho period when pocket watches were the mainstream, Seiko continued to prototype and research wristwatches, and in 1913 completed the Laurel wristwatch, the first wristwatch made in Japan.
“Laurel” contributed to the subsequent development of mechanical technology and industry in Japan, and was certified as a “Mechanical Engineering Heritage” by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2014. As a cultural heritage that has contributed to people’s lives and culture, it was selected as one of the things we want to pass on to the next generation.

Designed as a tribute to the original Laurel
Launched in 1913 Japan’s first wristwatch “Laurel”
The first generation Laurel features a white dial, red color on the number “12”, and a brown leather strap. These design elements will be incorporated and developed in all 11 models.
The strap is made of leather produced by a tanner that has obtained LWG (Leather Working Group) (*1) certification.

Like the first-generation Laurel, the dial uses enamelware. The enamelware dial, which is difficult to manufacture, is baked under the supervision of enamelware craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa. The Arabic numeral typeface used in the first generation “Laurel” and the red color of 12 o’clock are faithfully incorporated to express the timeless design in a modern style.
Sharp Edged Series SARX113
The hemp leaf pattern dial uses a moist and high-quality white gradient color. While expressing the similarities with the first generation “Laurel” with a subtle red tint, we have put together a modern impression unique to the Sharp Edged Series. The leather strap combines two types of leather materials to create a classic yet fresh look.
Style60’s SARY233
The Style60’s series expresses Seiko’s timeless vintage style with modern sensibility and technology. Based on the GMT model, it features elaborate graduations inspired by the instruments of classic cars of the 1960s, red markings at 12 o’clock and delicately designed numerals on the bezel.

Speed timer SBER009
A solar chronograph model equipped with a stopwatch function that can measure elapsed time in units of 1/100 second, and a dial layout that enhances visibility by completely independent of the time display and the totalization display. The red color of the first-generation Laurel is used for the stopwatch hands. For the first time in the “Speed Timer Solar Chronograph 1/100 Second Measurement”, a leather strap is included.
Alpinist SBEJ017
It is equipped with calibre 6R54, a practical movement with a long power reserve of about 3 days (about 72 hours) and GMT function. The red mark on the adduction ring with a simple compass indicates the direction of the north when determining the direction based on the direction of the sun and the hour and 24 hour hands, and at the same time leads to the design of the first “Laurel”.
