We interviewed Benny and Will.
ーPlease tell us how you spend your New Year’s and winter holidays in the UK.

Benny:
Happy New Year, Mutters (Mutt fans). The team at Mutt had a good rest over Christmas, and I was spending time with my family and working on my own bike projects.
May 2025 be a good year for you. And I hope that I will have a lot of time to ride my bike this year.

Will:
To the Mutt family in Japan, thank you again for this year. We hope you all had a relaxing time with friends and family.
I spent a lot of time with my family after work and drinking beer by the fireplace with friends. The weather was so bad that I couldn’t ride my bike, but I played a lot of guitar with my bandmates.

– Plans for 2025: What are MUTT’s main initiatives in 2025?
Benny:
We are working on new colour designs and the development of Euro 5+ DRK. A completely new model is also in the works. I can’t tell you much about it yet, but maybe Top Gear Japan will cover it exclusively.

Will:
We plan to expand the DRK and liquid cooling platform, introduce new models, and update the 2025 version of the classic air-cooled Mutt. We will also focus on internal system improvements, quality enhancements, and aftermarket parts.

ーImpressions of the first Japan limited model: The first Japan limited edition model was overwhelmingly well received, with some stores selling out on the day of the release date. The bold yellow livery was a challenging choice for MUTT, but what do you think resonated with fans in Japan?

Benny:
We are very happy that the first Japan limited edition model has been so well received. We are very satisfied with the response of our customers. The teamwork between Mutt U.K. and Mutt Japan allowed us to create a fresh and exciting design that retained Mutt’s character.

Will:
Custom models and special editions are at the heart of Mutt’s DNA. The audacity shown by Mutt Japan in these special editions in Japan is much more adventurous and wonderful than in Europe. I’m touched by the response and I love that Japan’s Mutters are so unique. I am looking forward to working on the development of the Japan limited edition in the future.

ーAbout the second Japan limited model: I heard that the second Japan limited model is based on the MUSHMAN. Can you tell us more about this model? And what are its distinguishing features?

Benny:
Mushman is one of my favorite models. Attention was paid to the details, such as the leather used for the rack straps of the tank and the stainless steel lock catcher on the front wheel. Exclusive to Japan, Mushman will use a special paint scheme that has never been seen before.

Will:
I love collecting vintage and military clothing, and I’m particularly attracted to camouflage. I’m very excited about this concept. The Mushman is one of my favorites of the air-cooled models, and I’m hoping to get this limited edition myself! It’s named after Steve McQueen’s alias “Harvey Mashman,” and when you add a camo print, it doesn’t get any cooler. Benny is in charge of the design, so I’ll leave the details to him.

– Target audience for the second model: What kind of customer do you think is the ideal customer base for this second Japan limited model?

Benny:
Anyone who is cool!

Will:
The people of Japan are very detail-oriented and understand the effort we put into our styling to update the classic British design. This bike is the culmination of that, so I think the ideal customer base is someone who is naturally cool and has an aesthetic eye for classic design and style. It’s a classic version of a custom bike, but you don’t have to go through the hassle of assembling it.

Message to fans in Japan: Please also let us know if possible about your plans to visit the Motorcycle Show in March.

In December 1880, Margarete came up with the idea of giving her nephews and nieces a toy with an elephant motif as a Christmas present. This “55PB” caught the eye of American buyers at a trade fair, and eventually it was improved and put into mass production. At the same time, in the United States, along with President Theodore Roosevelt’s nickname “Teddy”, the popularity of stuffed bears was also increasing, while counterfeit and inferior products began to circulate. That’s where the idea of “attaching a button to the left ear” to authenticate that it is a Steiff product came into play. This was the beginning of the world’s oldest trademark, the “button in ear”, which continues to this day as a sign of the finest quality.
