British footwear brand “DR. MARTENS” is celebrating the 65th anniversary of the birth of the iconic model “THE 1461 Shoes” with the release of the “1461 Black Mono” limited edition model in Japan.
“THE 1461 shoes” was born on April 1, 1961 as the second model after the brand’s first boot, the “1460”. As a unisex 3-hole shoe, it has gained popularity for many years due to its durability, comfort, and versatility. Details such as the air cushion sole and yellow welt stitching are known as iconic elements of the brand.

Handcrafted at the “Made in England” factory in Northamptonshire, England, this anniversary model is made of full-grain leather blended with natural oils and waxes, and features the aging that is created by wearing it. Antique gold eyelets and wax lace are used, and the included swing tag is engraved with “FOR JAPAN”. The upper is made of “Classic Calf leather” by tanner C.F. Stead, which was founded in ’04.
The sole is a slightly thicker black “BEX sole”. In addition, it follows the brand’s traditional specifications, such as an air cushion structure using the Goodyear welt manufacturing method, a grooved outsole, and double stitching. It is a limited edition item manufactured for the Japanese market and embodies the brand’s roots, craftsmanship.
In addition, a limited edition model “THE 1460 boots” made of the same material will also be released at the same time.
