Epson has added the new “Orient Mako 40” with a new size case and simple design to the “Orient Mako” diver design series with a dolphin icon on the back pig. Two models with different dial colors (limited to 200 pieces each) will be released on March 7, 2024.

The popular model, which has been nicknamed “Orient Mako” since its appearance in 2004, has now appeared with the themes of “compactness”, “simplicity”, and “light (lightness)”.
While retaining the basic performance of the “Orient Mako” series, such as water resistance that enhances daily life at 20 bar and an in-house automatic movement that achieves stable precision and reliability, a case with a diameter of 39.9 mm is adopted, which is even more compact than the 41.8 mm model that has dominated the center until now.
Each dial features bright lavender and lilac tones, giving it a refreshing and casual taste. In order to simplify the calendar display, the movement was replaced with a date-only type. In addition, by using bar-type hands and indexes with luminous light, which has excellent luminous power even in the dark, a simpler and more visible dial layout has been created than before.
In addition, styling that brings a simple and light feeling has been applied, such as a case shape that omits the crown guard and a rotating bezel that makes use of the stainless steel texture without coloring.
Like the previous Orient Mako, it does not conform to ISO standards as a diver’s watch, but it has more than enough practicality for daily use, such as a water resistance of 20 atmospheres. Both colors are priced at 48,400 yen, and both are rare models limited to 200 pieces in Japan, and the back pig is engraved with a limited serial number.
