Carl F. Bucherer introduces 88 vintage chronographs limited to Japan! Royal Blue celebrates the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland | ENGINE | Cars, Watches, Fashion, Men’s Lifestyle Media

Carl F. Bucherer celebrates the long-standing friendship between the two countries with a rare special edition of the popular chronograph. The new story spun in blue also further enhances the appeal of the watch.

“Royal blue that reminds us of the sky and the sea”
Heritage Bycompax Annual Japan

The first treaty of amity and commerce between Japan and the Swiss Confederation was signed on February 6, 1864, at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, during the reign of the 14th shogun, Tokugawa Ieshige. This year marks its 160th anniversary. Speaking of the 1860s, it is also known that the Swiss who came to Japan opened the beginning of imports through the introduction of Swiss watches, and as history shows, the two countries have built strong ties to the present day.

In honor of the long-standing friendship between Switzerland and Japan, the long-established Swiss brand Carl F. Bucherer has unveiled this special commemorative limited edition model. It is based on the Heritage Bicompax Annual, a representative chronograph that has long been popular among watch lovers. It is an extremely rare and outstanding model among the many chronographs of today, combining not only the vintage-flavored Bicompax design inspired by Bucherer’s classic masterpiece made in 1956, but also the modern functions of a convenient annual calendar that requires only one date correction once a year and a highly visible big date display.

This “Heritage Bicompax Annual Japan” is an even rarer model in that only 88 pieces are manufactured and sold exclusively in Japan. The biggest feature is the blue coloring. In fact, the face of this chronograph is dominated by two breezy blue sub-dials against a silver-finished white main dial and surrounded by a blue flange with a tachymeter scale. This blue, which is a favorite of Japan, has various thoughts and is hidden in the fact that it forms a single story.

The blue×white livery is exactly the same as the state flag of Lucerne, where Carl F. Bucherer was founded, and the blue symbolizes the beautiful waters of the scenic Lake Lucerne and the sky above the mountains represented by Pilatus and Rigi. Blue also symbolizes the color of the ocean that spread out before the eyes of the Swiss who came all the way across the sea to Japan at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate. The two symmetrical sub-dials are a testament to the friendship between Switzerland and Japan. The blue also extends to the sides of the leather strap, which can be easily replaced by a quick-release system.

In addition to function and design, the background and special story are also important elements for watch lovers. A special commemorative limited edition model celebrating the 160th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries will definitely be a good opportunity to discover such pleasures.

Carl F. Bucherer
Heritage Bycompax Annual Japan

Bicompax refers to a chronograph with a so-called two-lens design with two dials, a small seconds and an totalizer, and is a style that was often seen in hand-wound models in the 1950s. The shape of the pushpiece, which was widely used at the time, and the indexes with Arabic numerals also have a strong vintage feel. Automatic winding. Stainless steel, case diameter 41 mm, water resistant to 3 ATM. Comes with a black calf leather strap (photo right). Limited to Japan 88 pieces. 1,485,000 yen.

The CFB1972 of the automatic movement can be seen through the see-through back. The quick-release system makes it easy to swap out the metal bracelet from the included calf leather strap.

The pushpiece has a square design that reflects the style of yesteryear, and the logo is engraved on the crown top.

Eberar aims to protect Okinawa’s coral reefs."SCAFOGRAPH 300 MCMLIX" Save the Reef Japan Limited Edition … – PR TIMES

In order to sympathize with and support the activities of Save the Reef, a general incorporated association aimed at coral reef conservation and restoration, Everar will release 20 special limited edition models based on the “SCAFOGRAPH” collection “MCMLIX” exclusively in Japan from April 1. The prototype of this collaboration model was unveiled for the first time at the Save the Reef Charity Gala Dinner held at Hotel Okura on December 14, 2023, with Everard as the main sponsor.

Everard’s masterpiece collection, the “Scafograph”, was developed to meet the demand for diver’s watches. The history of the “Scafograph” began in 1959 with the announcement of the “Scafograph 100” as the first diver’s watch. Since then, various models have been developed, such as the “Scafograph 200” and the “Scaphograph 300”, and finally a model with a water resistance of 1,000 meters was born.

In the 1960s, Raymond Butcher, known as the father of professional diving, and Luciana Civico, the first female professional diver, both set world records wearing the “Scaphograph”. In 2016, the reissue of the Scaffograph 300 won the sports category of the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG), the most prestigious luxury horlogerie, and made a name for itself around the world.

More than 60 years have passed since its launch in 1959, but it still retains its unchanged design and plays an important role in the history of Everard. A modern reinterpretation of the original design, the special edition “MCMLIX” represents the year of birth of the collection in Roman numerals.

Home to 25% of the world’s marine fish species, coral reefs provide a diverse range of seafood as fishing grounds and provide food for between 500 million and 1 billion people worldwide. However, 58% of the world’s coral reefs are currently potentially threatened by human activities, including coastal exploitation, overexploitation of biological resources, marine pollution, and topsoil runoff resulting from deforestation and agricultural land development. In addition, large-scale bleaching phenomena due to global warming, destruction of coral reefs by typhoons, and damage caused by predatory animals are also causes of coral death, and the survival of coral reefs is becoming more serious in various parts of Japan.

Save the Reef is a general incorporated association that educates people about activities to protect and restore endangered coral reefs, and provides information both domestically and internationally. Eberard supports the activities of Save the Reef, a general incorporated association, and has decided to collaborate with us to convey the current state of corals to as many people as possible and to restore a better ocean.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the special limited edition model announced this time will support the activities of Koji Kinjo of Okinawa “Sango Hata”, who was the first in the world to successfully cultivate corals and spawn after releasing them into the sea through the general incorporated association Save the Reef. Koji Kinjo has discovered “Miracle Corals” that are resistant to global warming and is expanding their breeding in the waters of Okinawa. Save the Reef has a vision to spread its “Miracle Coral” to the world’s oceans.

The special limited edition is a self-winding mechanical diver’s watch with a 43 mm stainless steel case, a ceramic bezel with unidirectional rotation, sapphire glass and a helium escape valve at 9 o’clock. The all-green dial with the green “Miracle Coral” motif and the ceramic bezel are decorated with a vintage-inspired luminescent scale and a second hand with a circular coral design. The caseback is also engraved with the collection’s symbolic starfish pattern and Save the Reef. About “Eberard”:

Founded in 1887 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the mecca of Swiss luxury watchmaking, the long-established Swiss watch house “Héberard” has never stopped production for more than 136 years and is one of the few long-established Swiss watch brands that continues to be independent and family-owned.

Japan limited edition model appears in popular vintage look model | THE RAKE JAPAN

The year 2024 marks the 160th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland. Carl F. Bucherer celebrated with the launch of the Japan Limited Edition “Heritage Bycompax Annual Japan”. Based on the popular 1950s Bucherer chronograph with a modern twist, the royal blue accent color is used as the accent color of the dial.

“Blue” is the symbolic color of the flag of the canton of Lucerne, where the company was founded, and it is a color that Carl F. Bucherer has been particular about in many models. Among them, royal blue evokes a sense of calmness, purity, and cleanliness even for Japan. It is also the color of the sea and sky seen on the voyages between the two countries, and is adopted as a symbol of friendship.

It features vintage details such as retro typeface numerals and hand designs, as well as two horizontal subdials, but it also has a sporty feel that can be used in a variety of scenes.
