Yamaha Motor’s Waverunner watercraft will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2026.
In 1986, we released the first watercraft under the series name “Marine Jet”, and the first of these was the “MJ-500T”. The MJ-500T is a symbolic model that has established the watercraft category in the market even today, 40 years after its release.
At that time, watercraft were mainly single-seater standing and required a high level of skill in maneuvering, and were enjoyed by a small number of enthusiasts. On the other hand, the MJ-500T was designed to be easy to handle due to its sitting posture, propulsion that enables tandem, and stability, attracting attention as a “marine leisure activity that everyone can enjoy” and has become a leading figure in the watercraft market since then.

Once the MJ-500T is accepted by the market, we will expand our user range by developing a variety of models, including a sporty single-seater model, a cruising model with a strong awareness of leisure, and a luxurious luxury model. Watercraft has evolved from a vehicle for individual enjoyment to a “multi-person leisure platform” that can be shared with family and friends, and eventually it has become necessary to improve environmental performance and driving performance.
The major turning point was the MJ-FX140, the world’s first model with a four-stroke engine, which appeared in 2002.
