On May 8, 2025, BMW Japan announced that it will introduce the flagship BMW X7 SUV in a limited edition version of the BLACK-α Japan SUV, with a total of 100 units. Delivery is scheduled for June of the same year.

In addition to the special badges, which are laser-engraved one by one and apply a color tone close to pure silver to the base that appears on the surface, the “X7 M60i xDrive Black Alpha” features lacquer makie/mother-of-pearl decorative trim by lacquer artist and maki-e artist Kazusai Hattori.

For the BMW X7 Black Alpha to be introduced this time, the exterior color of the “Frozen Black Metallic” of “BMW Individual Special Paint” is selected as the exterior color, which is a matte specification and a powerful jet black that further eliminates the gloss from the black that absorbs light wavelengths. It is explained that it is characterized by the use of a “twin circular and double light” that emits a jewel-like light and increases its presence, a “black kidney grille” with an iconic glow, and a “panoramic sky roof” that resembles the brilliance of 15,000 pale stars.
On the center console, there is a special badge by the craftsmen of Momentum Factory Orii, which has inherited traditional techniques since its founding as the Orii Coloring Factory in Showa 25 and has been involved in the coloring of various castings such as Buddha statues, bells (fishing bells), and tea utensils. This special badge uses a metal coloring technique cultivated in Toyama and Takaoka, in which each badge is laser engraved one by one and then applied to the base part that comes out on the surface with a color tone close to pure silver.
A door projector that illuminates the driver’s and passenger’s feet at night, with the motif of “α” drawn with a single stroke, is also said to be exclusive equipment for the model.
The lineup consists of the X7 xDrive40d Black Alpha, which combines a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder diesel turbo with a 48V mild hybrid system with a maximum system output of 352 PS and a maximum system torque of 720 Nm, and the X7 M60i, which combines a 4.4-liter V8 gasoline turbo with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, with 530 PS and 750 Nm. Two models of the “xDrive Black Alpha”.
The X7 xDrive40d Black Alpha is equipped with the 22-inch M Light Alloy Wheels V Spokes Styling 755M (Jet Black), while the X7 M60i xDrive Black Alpha is equipped with the 23-inch BMW Individual Light Alloy Wheels V Spokes Styling 914l Bicolor (Jet Black).
In addition, the X7 M60i xDrive Black Alpha is fitted with high-gloss black “M door mirror covers” and the tailgate badge is finished in black. Only the X7 M60i xDrive Black Alpha will be equipped with lacquer makie/mother-of-pearl decorative trim made by lacquer artist and maki-e artist Kazusai Hattori and a wool floor mat handmade by the craftsmen of Kawashima Textile Sercon as exclusive items.
The price is 16.25 million yen for the X7 xDrive40d Black Alpha and 21.4 million yen for the X7 M60i xDrive Black Alpha.
90 units of the former will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis at authorized dealers, and 9 units of the latter will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis on a dedicated website. The remaining 100 units will be the X7 M60i xDrive Black Alpha, which will be presented to the winner of the BMW Japan Golf Tour Championship Moriville Cup, which will be held at Shishido Hills Country Club from June 5 to June 8, 2025, with BMW as the title sponsor.
