OOFOS®

OOFOS® is a recovery shoe brand developed over two and a half years by a veteran team involved in product development for major shoe manufacturers. Realizing that there was no shoe designed to absorb shock and recover from the soles of the feet, they launched OOFOS and became a pioneer in recovery shoes. OOfoam™, a special material used in the product, is different from general EVA midsoles that aim to create forward force, and suppresses impact rebound by 37% and reduces the impact on the sole of the foot due to landing. The popular model, which has been nicknamed “Orient Mako” since its appearance in 2004, has now appeared with the themes of “compactness”, “simplicity”, and “light (lightness)”.

While retaining the basic performance of the “Orient Mako” series, such as water resistance that enhances daily life at 20 bar and an in-house automatic movement that achieves stable precision and reliability, a case with a diameter of 39.9 mm is adopted, which is even more compact than the 41.8 mm model that has dominated the center until now.

Each dial features bright lavender and lilac tones, giving it a refreshing and casual taste. In order to simplify the calendar display, the movement was replaced with a date-only type. In addition, by using bar-type hands and indexes with luminous light, which has excellent luminous power even in the dark, a simpler and more visible dial layout has been created than before.

In addition, styling that brings a simple and light feeling has been applied, such as a case shape that omits the crown guard and a rotating bezel that makes use of the stainless steel texture without coloring.

Like the previous Orient Mako, it does not conform to ISO standards as a diver’s watch, but it has more than enough practicality for daily use, such as a water resistance of 20 atmospheres. Both colors are priced at 48,400 yen, and both are rare models limited to 200 pieces in Japan, and the back pig is engraved with a limited serial number.

Epson has unveiled the 20th anniversary model of the Orient Mako, a diver design series that represents Orient. It will be released on April 18, 2024 in a limited edition of 500 Japan.

In the history of the Orient, models with the design of a diver’s watch can be said to be a representative collection that has built a lineage for many years since the 1960s. In the lineage of Orient Divers, the “Orient Mako” series, nicknamed “Mako”, which means blue shark, was born in 2004. This season, a limited edition model was announced to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this “Orient Mako”.

The feature of this work is the blue dial with Arabic numerals, which has continued since the first model. A blue gradient paint inspired by the beautiful sea surrounding Japan was applied from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock, and a pattern with a wave motif was adopted. Orient Mako’s unique unidirectional rotating bezel, which has six indentations, divides the aluminum plate into blue and black at the 20-minute mark of the triangular marker and scale for a stylish coloring.
